My Scientific Work
I am going to write my thesis on the topic “Deviant behavior. Narcotism and alcoholism problems of youngsters”. There are a lot of many important problems in modern sociology. Many of them need a profound and independent study. I started my work on this problem two years ago. The aim of my present research is to examine scientifically social, psychological, cultural and moral reasons for drugs and alcohol use, and activities of institutions of law and order and up-bringing in a way of its forestalling. This research is interesting from many points of view.
The tasks of the research are as follows:
- to analyse different levels of preconditions for narcotism and alcoholism appearing;
- to examine the deviation mechanism by means of analysing the interaction between normative regulators and individual peculiarities and it’s attitude towards the real life situation;
- to study the influence of social tension, confrontation on the narcotism and alcoholism appearing;
- to analyze micro-social and cultural situations, which provoke alcoholism and narcotism;
- to examine the acuteness and duration of social conflicts and peculiarities of individual adaptation to it;
- to study the condition of society’s institutional forms, their contradictions;
- to examine the informational center’s activity and their informational availability;
- to determine the effectiveness of social control forms and methods in forestalling narcotism and alcoholism;
- to study mass media resources and means in narcotism and alcoholism preventive inspection.
Similar studies are in progress in many institutions of our country and abroad.
This problem is interesting to many scientists. I am familiar with such works by S. Freid, V. Levi, A. Petrovsky, V. Kagan and others.
I think my approach is also useful and the findings will be of significance. The object of my research are teenagers and youngsters, which are sickly depended on drugs and alcohol.
The actuality of this problem is hidden within the phenomenon of deviation and it’s “institutialization” as socially adopted and secretly approved type of youngsters’ behavior. Unfortunately, deviation has not been regarded up to nearest time as a scientific problem, and some of its aspects have not been researched in sociological way.
I`ve got a lot of difficulties with such a complicated problem. There are several ways of approaching this problem, and its theoretical aspect is of great importance. Many researchers are working on similar problems - I mean at the junction of sociology, psychology, statistics, information science and special sciences, but it still remains much to do. I read the professional literature regularly, discuss ideas and results with my colleagues and my supervisor.
Recently I have written a scientific paper and it will soon come out. The paper contained experimental and statistic data. Another paper was presented at the last conference. The conference was organized by the Institute of Sociology and devoted to the new research tendencies within the sociological science.
Finishing my thesis, I should say that it takes a lot of efforts to become a skilful investigator. A scientist must be able to cope with numerous problems when doing the research, to be acknowledged with modern scientific research methods, sometimes originated from other sciences - for example, statistics, cybernetics, etc. He must possess a creative mind and work hard. Of great significance are his skill and talent.
