My friend is named Richard. He is a 17-year-old boy from Latvia who lives in a small apartment in Baldone with his mother and younger brother. He is a full-time student at RTK, where he studies IT because he wants to be a programmer. But apart from that, he has a lot of hobbies. He spends most of his spare time taking photos of nature and animals or reading articles on the Internet about the newest technologies. He really hates cooking and would rather eat out or order a pizza than cook a simple meal for himself or his family.

Richard has short, dark, curly hair and deep green eyes. He is a tall, very well-built teenager because he likes doing sports like swimming, jogging and football [“soccer” in American English]. Apart from being fit, he is also quite handsome. He is a very optimistic person and smiles a lot. Richard can always tell a good joke and he thinks that “the glass is half full, not half empty”. Though apart from that he can be very moody, and if you catch him in a bad mood, then it can ruin your day.

Richard is very helpful to his family and closest friends. He can always listen to somebody’s problems and try to help. His best friend is his brother Andres with whom he can share his deepest secrets and a slice of pizza while watching a hockey game. He always puts his family before friends or fun. That’s why he’s such a mature and great person!

I am going to speak about one of my friends. Her name is Aljona, she is sixteen now. I have known her for a long time - we met in the first form of our dance school. She has straight fair hair, not very long, shorter than shoulder-length. She has clear grey eyes. Aljona is tall and slim, she is good-looking because most of the time she smiles. She is a really cheerful person. She is also organised (she loves when everything is in its place), honest, sociable, but she can sometimes be too materialistic. Aljona is conservative; she does not change things around her often. She likes reading, I sometimes lend her books. She is interested in watching films, learning languages, especially German. She also likes travelling, hanging around and chatting about everything.

Describe yourself, another student, a famous person.

Write a short description of a student in your class. Read it out. See if the other students can guess who it is.

3. I am thinking of a person. Guess who? Students ask yes-no questions. (e.g. Karlsson from Astrid Lindgren “Karlsson-on-the-Roof”).

Report to the police about a missing person.
