Translate and memorize the following expressions.

1. He is hard to please. 2. She is pleasant to look at. 3. I have something to tell you. 4. There is nothing to be gained by it. 5. There is nothing to be done. 6. There is much to be done. 7. The house is to let. 8. Who is to blame? 9. Be sure to come. 10. There is nothing left to do but wait.

 

State the form and the function of the Infinitive. Translate the sentences into Ukrainian.

1. To go on with this discussion is to waste time. 2. Oh, I am sorry to have taken so much of your time. 3. It all sounds too good to be true. 4. We assembled to discuss and arrange our plans. 5. He was the first to raise the question. 6. You’re a bachelor with no family to take care of. 7. I didn’t come here to be shouted at. 8. To meet the demands for goods, new shops have been opened in the town. 9. I rose to receive my guests. 10. He had a good deal to say about India. 11. He looked at the shelves of books to be read. 12. He was too astonished to speak.

 

Use the appropriate form of the Infinitive.

1. He made me (to do) it all over again. 2. He made her (to repeat) the message. 3. Would you like me (to go) now? 4. He wouldn’t let my baby (to play) with his gold watch. 5. I’d like him (to go) to a university but I can’t make him (to go). 6. I let him (to know) your decision as soon as possible. 7. I hate (to bother) you, but the man is still waiting (to give) a definite answer. 8. The only sound (to hear) was the ticking of the grandfather clock downstairs. 9. The gardener won’t let the children (to pick) the flowers. 10. How fortunate he is (to travel) all over the world and (to see) so much of it.

 

4. Insert to where necessary.

Combine each of the following parts of sentences into one sentence using an Infinitive.
