DEGREES OF COMPARISON
Swan 136.3 2-SYLLABLE: happy – happier – happiest; unhappy –unhappier – unhappiest
Some two-syllable adjectives can have –er, -est, especially adjectives ending in
1. an unstressed vowel: narrow – narrower narrowest,
2. [l] simple –simpler –simplest,
3. [ (r)] clever – cleverer – cleverest
4. quiet – quieter –quietest
Two ways of building: polite, common
More/most ONLY with those ending in –ing, -ed, -ful, -less

SUPERLATIVE smb/smth with the group he/she/it belongs to
