Extraterrestrial civilizations – are they possible to be found?

The history of astronomy and the theory of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations.

What is there, behind the sky? Since the beginning of life people had always been interested in that question. From the first humans until the Renaissance, people believed in God or Gods: Anubis - dog or jackal God of embalming and tomb-caretaker who watches over the dead - and Ra – the sun, also a creator of deity – in ancient Egypt, Ares – God of chaotic war – and Chronos – God of time – in ancient Greece, Ashta Lakshmi (a group of eight Hindu goddesses) – Gods, which preside over eight sources of wealth: prosperity, good health, knowledge, strength, progeny and power – in India. Usually people of different religions believed that Gods live behind the sky and that they have created the World.

But even B.C. scientists understood, that there is something “behind” the sky, something real, something, what we can see. The most important researches were in Babylon, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, India, Ancient Greece and in Central America. Scientists of that time predicted solar and lunar eclipses, identified the main constellations, discovered many of the laws of planetary motion, the Moon and the Sun and counted the «Metonic cycle” (period of time in 6939 days 14 hours 15 minutes, serving to align the duration of the lunar month and the solar year in the lunisolar calendar). From that great researches scientists started to understand, that other planets looks like Earth and therefore there is probably life on them.

The mainstream of belief that extraterrestrial (ETA) civilizations exist originated in the Renaissance. Famous and respected people Nicholas of Cusa, Giambattista Benedetti, Pontus de Tear, Giordano Bruno supported that theory. Some people started to believe in that, some of them even denied their religion, but Church still remained too powerful and influential to let people deny that only God lives behind the sky.
