Act IV.

Act II.

1. Now Romeo is beloved and loves again,

Alike bewitched by the charm of looks;

2. O, that I were a glove upon that hand,

That I might touch that cheek!

3. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,

And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

4. Good night, good night! parting is such

sweet sorrow,

That I shall say good night till it be morrow.

5. Our Romeo hath not been in bed to-night.

That last is true; the sweeter rest was mine.

6. Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here!

Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear,

So soon forsaken?

7. For this alliance may so happy prove,

To turn your households' rancour to pure love.

8. Gentlemen, can any of you tell me where I

may find the young Romeo?

9. This afternoon, sir? well, she shall be there.

10. The clock struck nine when I did send the nurse;

In half an hour she promised to return.

11. Sweet, sweet, sweet nurse, tell me, what says my love?

12. Hie to high fortune! Honest nurse, farewell.

13. Amen, amen! but come what sorrow can,

It cannot countervail the exchange of joy

That one short minute gives me in her sight…

14. But my true love is grown to such excess

I cannot sum up sum of half my wealth.

15. Come, come with me, and we will make short work;

For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone

Till holy church incorporate two in one.

Act III.

1. Gentlemen, good ev’n, a word with one of you.

2. And but one word with one of us?

Couple it with something. Make it a word and a blow.

3. Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries

That thou hast done me.

4. Tybalt, rat-catcher, will you walk?

5. O, Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio is dead.

6. Either thou or I, or both, must go with him.

7. Where are the vile beginners of this fray?

8. I will be deaf to pleading and excuses;

Nor tears nor prayers shall purchase out abuses.

9. Tybalt is gone and Romeo banished;

Romeo that killed him, he is banished.

10. That ‘banished’, that one word ‘banished’

Hath slain ten thousand Tybalts.

11. Ha, banished? Be merciful, say ‘death’;

12. My lord. I’ll tell my lady you will come.

13. A Thursday let it be – a Thursday, tell her,

She shall be married to this noble earl.

14. O, now be gone! More light and light it grows.

15. But now I’ll tell thee joyful tidings, girl.

16. These are news indeed!

17. I tell thee what: get thee to church a Thursday,

Or never after look me in the face.

18. O God! O Nurse, how shall this be prevented?

19. Then, since the case stands as now it doth,

I think it best you married with the county.

20. I’ll to the Friar to know his remedy.

If all else fail, myself have power to die.

Act IV.

1. Happily met, my lady and my wife.

2. Take thou this vial, being then in bed,

And drink this distilling drink thou off;

3. And this shall free thee from this present shame,

If no inconstant toy nor womanish fear

Abate thy valour in the acting it.

4. So many guests invite as here are writ.

5. Farewell. – God knows when we shall meet again.

6. Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s drink – I drink to thee.

7. O me, o me, mu child, my only life!

8. For though some nature bids us all lament,

Yet, natures tears are reason’s merriment.

Act V.

1. Her body sleeps in Capel’s monument, …

2. And her immortal part with angels lives.

3. Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight.

4. Whatever thou hearst or seest, stand all aloof,

And do not interrupt me in my course.

5. Stop thy unhallowed toil, vile Montague!

6. Here’s to my love!

7. This is the steath. There rust, and let me die.

8. Romeo, there dead, was husband to that Juliet;

And she, there dead, that’s Romeo’s faithful wife.

9. O brother Montague, give me thy hand.

10. For never was a story of more woe

Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
