Instead of just lecturing in the classroom, teachers are facilitators of learning, providing students with the information and tools they need to master a subject. At times, teachers act like tutors, working with small groups of students or individual students within the classroom or after class. Teachers also play the role of evaluators, constantly assessing students' abilities through formal and informal assessments, providing suggestions for improvement and assigning grades.
The role of teacher in the educational set up is very important. It is a two-way process i.e. student and teacher, i.e. two sides of the same coin. It is beyond argument that teacher is a backbone of the society, country and the educational system. He represents whole of the society in school which is a sub-society or mini society. The citizens of tomorrow are his students and the future of the country lies in his hand.
Teacher plays an important role in different capacities. He works as the director of the school/student and issues directions and directives in a manner that cannot be mended. Students receive directions from his personality and he himself introduces several techniques to direct the students like co-curricular activities and extra-co curricular activities in the school.
Teacher is also a part of the organisational set up of the school. As such, he plays an important role in the organisation of the school, activities of the school and organising the transitional etc. Actually he is the administrator of the school, class, and management. Since students are the main target in whole of the educational system it need well qualified administrator, organizer and the teacher in the person to whom everybody looks.
Teacher also plays an important role as a helper and assists the school-students in the whole of the set up of education. He assists the students in their problem and establishes the harmonious relationship with the parents. Principal and members of die management etc.
Teacher is an advisor of the school, parents and the students. The Principal and the Management also seek his help in solving the problems of the school, students, staff etc. He performs his duties as a assistant to his students. Besides the teaching work he assists and helps the students in their studies and takes part in developing their personality.
Teacher is also a social-reformer. The other person equivalent to the teacher is a social reformer.
Since students are of tender-age, a teacher fills and guards the students. School is also a mini society and as such he plays an important role and sows the seeds of secularism, fraternity, human values and health etc. in the students, who are the citizen of tomorrow. He is the guide to the students in this regard and removes the social evils.
The world changes day by day and there is no doubt that the modern society is not the same with an ancient one. For example, education system has changed completly - nowdays being teacher does not mean only being a helper in difficult process of getting education; it means being creative and highly talented "guide", which accompanies a student in all way of studying. Are these changes positive or negative?
In my opinion, contemporary teachers should pay more attention to new methods of teaching, what will make studying more enjoyable. First of all, in conditions, when people are surronded by great number of information, school or university program can be remembered only by association; that is why lessons must be expressive and remarkable. Secondly, today humanity has the accsess to immence resourse, such as books, science reserches and teacher`s role, which provide student with it, is not actual today.
However, some people believe that a classic teacher is more reliable, becouse new methods of education can be untested yet. They also consider that instead of imagining something new, it is better to make knowlage deeper for both students and teachers.
I am afraid they are not right, because education system cannot stay in one level. Moreover, in modern society depth of knowlage does not play the mainest role; it is more important to be flexible.
In conclusion I strongly believe that the way of getting education is very individual and choice depends on our preferences
555555Foreign Language Teaching And Technology Education
I. Introduction
The use of technology as a tool for teaching second language (L2) learners is gaining more and more attention as educators become aware of its ability to generate both independent and collaborative learning settings in which students can acquire and practice a new language. Through the use of the Internet, word processors, multimedia, hypermedia and drill and practice programs, students can engage in individualized instruction designed to meet their specific needs and participate in collaborative efforts that promote communication with peers in both their classrooms and throughout the global community.
When using modern technologies during foreign language classes, authentic language situations are introduced. These emphasize the process of learning and, at the same time, they provide the teacher and the learner with necessary feedback. Multimedia in foreign language teaching are able to compensate for some disadvantages that can be observed in case of traditional teaching. It is important to say that the role of the teacher has changed a lot since multimedia were introduced into teaching process
Their use should correspond to students´ level of proficiency, state of mind and overall conditions in the whole group or classroom. However, an evaluation of mutually interconnected issues related to teaching process is an inseparable part of using any teaching aid, including computers. Good didactic aids can be helpful both in the teaching and learning processes. They can be designed in a way so that they respect individual differences and endowments of the learner, including learning styles.
Foreign language (FL) teachers have always been ahead of the curve in integrating technology in FL instruction and learning, seeing the benefits of technology even without an extant research database to confirm their judgment. The number of computer apÂplications, communications technologies, and sheer volume of ofÂferings on the Internet has grown at an amazing rate over the past 15 years, and many FL educators, heeding instinct, common sense, and anecdotal information, have embraced these new technologies as useful instructional tools.
Before turning to a discussion of the use of computers in language learning, it is better to summarize the findings on computers and learning. At first it may be concluded that the theory of generativity works well within language learning, but in fact; it supports Sherwood Smith's claim that language learners internalize representative samples of language and use these to deduct the rules from and apply to novel utterances (Smith, Sh, 1993); however, studies show that instruction using computers works most effectively when learners are given explicit information about the target structure in the beginning after which they are given the input material.Computer and information technologies have the potential to transform how and what we learn throughout our lives. Effective teachers in the new century, with the help of computer and information technologies, can serve as a "valuable source of feedback, guidance and answers to questions" (Felix, 2001: 349), and not just disseminators of information. They are facilitators and counselors to students' English self-study on the Web. Therefore, a conclusion can be made. The use of computer and information technologies will not cause any threat to the survival of teachers. Instead, we believe that the best potential of these technologies "lies in adding quality to teaching and learning environments rather than in replacing them" (Felix, 2001: 351). Therefore, English teachers should face new challenges to utilize these technologies to facilitate the instruction and promote teaching effectiveness.
