2. Work with a partner. Read about the couples below. All of them have problems in their relationships. Are the problems very serious? Should that couple get married? If not, give reasons for your answer.

1. Junko is twelve years older than Masaki, but they have many interests in common
and really enjoy each other's company.

2. Lynn and Brian met in college, where they took many of the same classes and had the
same major, but Brian's family is very well-to-do, and Lynn's family is poor.

3. Becky and Jim began dating two weeks after Becky broke up with a man she had been
going out with for two years. Now two months after their first date, Becky and Jim are
engaged.

4. Sarah and Steve have a good time together and have many friends, interests, and beliefs
in common, but Sarah wants to have children soon, and Steve never wants to have any.

5. John and Chris have been going out for two years and are very compatible, but at the
same time as he was going with Chris, John also dated other women.

6. Cathy is a doctor and makes a large amount of money, but Rick never finished high
school, and he makes less than half as much money as Cathy does.

7. Gene and Jo are both married to other people, but they will be getting divorced soon
and are planning a wedding two weeks after both divorces are final.

8. Ana and Miguel do everything together and enjoy each other's company, but Ana does
not like Miguel's friends or family, and Miguel does not like her friends or family.

9. Cecilia is 29 years old. She met Lee one month ago, and now he and her parents are
pushing her to marry him.

why not?

3. Some American women prefer to keep their maiden names after marriage. What do
you think of this? Can you think of any reasons a woman should or should not change
her name?

4. If you are not married, do you plan on getting married? Why or why not? If you are
married, did you plan on getting married? Did you marry earlier or later than you had
planned?

5. Talk about some of the dating customs in your country.
