In 1879 Alexander Andreevich Auerbach was suggested a post of consulter in Bogoslovsk Mount Okrug. He agreed, but the first impression was rather depressing. The plants and mines were miserable. The production of copper and gold mines was tiny. The majority of workers left this region after serfdom abolition in Russia.
Before going to Bogoslovsk he lived in Petersburg. Alexander Andreevich Auerbach was an expert of three enterprises and was quite a rich person. A new manager did a lot for workers and for industrial development. His wife Sofia Pavlovna opened an orphanage where she taught children to write, read and count. She organized public readings and performances.
In October, 1884, he opened a Mining trade school. The students were taught sciences, geology, mineralogy, metallurgy, drawing and geodesy. After theoretical course the students had practical training for 2 years. The graduators had a very good preparation for the future work.
A. A. Auerbach built new enterprises, enlarged production abilities. Copper smelting was increased three times more. For a long period of time there wasn’t a railway and the region was isolated. The nearest station was Kushva. Auerbach granted money for building a railway between Bogoslovsk and Kushva, moreover the Sosva and the Tavda Rivers became navigable.
Alexander Andreevich was a great manager, a talented engineer, a good scientist who really did much for the region development.
