It is also 5 minutes away from the forest.

Address:

Hill House, Pleasant Stile,

Littledean, Cinderford,

Gloucestershire

House phone number:

This phone is available for you to receive calls from abroad but we kindly ask you not to use it to give calls outside of the UK and to use instead the internet, skype or phone cards (easy to buy in any shop in England).

As Hill House is very much about life in community, it is important for all its residents to be respectful of others at all levels such as noise, cleanliness, privacy etc. Thanks to this awareness, we are hoping to reach harmonious and enjoyable living conditions for all, in the respect of everybody’s needs.

The house has common living room, laundry room and kitchen, fully equiped with fridge, freezer, oven, microwave. Most of the time, lunches will be provided and shared at the ASHA Centre, and dinners will be free for you to cook at home, together or on your own depending on your preference. For the enjoyment of all, the house also has a small library and a piano.

You may be sharing a room or have an individual room. All rooms have toilets and hand basins. Some have showers in the room, some others have shared showers on the landing. Towels and bed linen will be provided.

! Note: We will not be able to host you either before or after the project. If you would like to come earlier, you will have to find and cover your accommodation by yourself

!! Note: Wireless internet is available at Hill House, you are welcome to bring your own laptop or another wireless device.

!!! UK plugs/sockets differ from continental/European – please bring your own adapter, as the ASHA Centre does not provide adapters.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The English summer weather can be quite unpredictable, please bring some warm clothes with you, to be comfortable at work but also at home. Summary

Venue: Forest of Dean, Gloucerstershire, UK

Funded by: British Council, National Agency for the Youth in Action Programme

Volunteers: 10 (2 from Germany, 2 from Spain, 2 from Turkey, 2 Ukraine, 2 from Palestine)

The ASHA Centre is an international retreat and training venue working for greater peace and understanding amongst diverse communities, especially young people. The Centre is located in an old country house in one of the loveliest parts of England – the Forest of Dean. We have five acres of productive fruit, herb vegetable gardens and grounds.

The project combines elements of environment protection and biodynamic/organic agriculture (inspired by Rudolf Steiners’ philosophy) with hospitality in an innovative and fun-packed programme aiming at fostering active youth participation and a sense of European citizenship. Its learning outcomes include an increased understanding of organic gardening and sustainable living, team building, hospitality skills, being pro-active and leadership skills, and project development. This will provide the volunteer with enhanced confidence and self esteem, examples of their work which can be used as portfolio, for either further education applications or for employment interviews and both hard and soft life skills.

Three main activities are proposed to the volunteers at the ASHA Centre:

- biodynamic/organic gardening;

- hosting international groups on training courses, welcoming them, cooking and cleaning;

- drama/theatre productions

Becoming part of the ASHA team, taking initiative, developing own personal projects, being involved in local community events and cultural outings are all part of this EVS placement.
