LVIV STATE ACADEMY OF FINANCE

Ukraine is a country of students. There are institutes, academies and universities in almost all large cities of Ukraine.
Lviv has 12 institutions of higher education, as well as many colleges and secondary schools. In Lviv, students can gain qualifications in almost any field of human activity, including technical subjects, medicine, humanities, economics, art etc.
Lviv State Academy of Finance is one of the best economic establishments of higher learning. The main purpose of the Academy is to equip students with contemporary knowledge of economics and to provide them with excellent professional skills.
The Academy was founded in 1956 as Lviv educational consulting centre of correspondence department. In 1961 it was transformed into the branch of Chernivtsi technical school of Finance. In 1963 it became an independent educational establishment – Lviv technical school of Finance. In 1993 the technical school was restructed and named Lviv college of Finance and Economics. A new stage in the development of the educational establishment began in January 1999 when it was transformed into Lviv State Institute of Finance and Economics. And in 2004 it became Lviv State Academy of Finance. Now it is one of the leading establishments of higher learning in Ukraine. The students’ body of the Academy is about 1000 students (including extra-mural students). They are admitted to the Academy on the basis of their results at the entrance examinations. The students may enrol in day-time, correspondence or external-studies department.
The Academy provides training for the following specialities:
1. Finances (“Taxes”, “State Finances”, “Finances of Enterprises”).
2. Accounting and Audit (“Control and Audit”, “Accounting and Audit in budget organizations and institutions”).
3. Economic cybernetics.
There is also a preparatory faculty at the Academy. It offers programs aimed at preparing applicants for entrance examinations. At the Academy of Finance students follow a four-year course leading to the award of a bachelor’s degree. Those who continue their studies for a further year gain a specialist degree. After that, some students continue their study and research for a further year and obtain a master’s degree.
The academic year consists of two semesters, during which students attend lectures and classes, prepare their course papers. At the end of the semester they submit course works, take examinations and credit tests.
Modern computer classes (equipped with computers), good sports facilities, an assembly hall, a library with a reading room are at students’ disposal. Students from other towns, villages or countries are provided with a hostel.
The graduates are mainly directed to the Financial and Taxation institutions, Controlling and Inspecting organizations, State Treasury establishments to work as economists, accountants, financiers, auditors, tax inspectors, etc.
During its existence the Academy trained over 10000 specialists, who work successfully in financial, taxation, insurance and budget establishments, at enterprises, and different organizations of Ukraine and the countries of CIS.
