Not long ago Ukraine had weak connections with other countries of the world. For hundreds years of its history Ukraine was devided into some parts and those parts belonged to different countries. So, Ukraine was not represented as a state anywhere in the world. But at the same time Ukrainians can be found anywhere in the world. There is Ukrainian Diaspora in the USA, Canada, Russia, Argentina, Poland, New Zealand and many other countries of the world.
When Ukraine got its Independence in 1991 it started to establish and reestablish the relationship with other countries. It was not very difficult, because Ukraine was well known in the world before. Ukraine is one of the founding members of the UNO, and Ukraine was always represented in this organization. Ukrainian sportsmen brought real fame to Ukraine. Everybody who is interested in sports, doesn’t matter where he lives, knows the football team “Dynamo” or the handball team “Spartac” from Kyiv. The names of Ukrainian sportsmen: Serhii Bubka, Vitalii and Volodymyr Klychko, Yana Klochkova are known all over the world.
Many Ukrainians went to work to different,mostly European, countries. A not stable economic situation caused it but they brought a part of Ukrainian culture, traditions and customs there. Ukraine participates in many international organizations. For example Peace Corps USA has been working for more then 10 years in Ukraine. And Peace Corps volunteers helped Ukrainians a lot in business, ecology and English studies.
Ukraine integrates more and more into the “World Society” and I hope it will help my country to be famous and poverful in future.
Kyiv
Kyiv is not only the capital of Ukraine. It is a cultural, industrial and financial centre of Ukraine. Like any other ancient city Kyiv was founded on the bank of a river. There is a beautiful legend about foundation of Kyiv. It tells about tree brothers Kyi, Shchek and Khoriv and their sister Lybid. Kyiv grew larger and larger; it attracted many people from other cities, towns and villages. Later Kyiv became the capital of the Kyiv Rus.
Nowadays it is one of the oldest and biggest cities in Europe. There are a lot of interesting places in Kyiv. The Independence Square and the main street of the city Khreshatyk are favourite places for entertainment for citizens and guests of the city. There are many historical places such as: Kyivo-Pechrska Lavra, Golden Gates, St. Sofia’s Cathedral etc.
There are a lot of museums, theatres, cinemas in Kyiv. Kyiv has always been a very important scientific and educational centre of Ukraine. Among the best known higher educational establishments there are Shevchenko National University, Polytechnic University, International Independent University, Kyiv-Mohula Academy and many others.
The present and the past live in Kyiv and both lovers of history and people who are interested in the modern life will find something to their taste in busy streets of Kyiv.
