Task 3. Luigi Casolo-Ginelli started writing this letter to Geffrey Best at BOSLLD:

"I was delighted with the first order of stationary (reference MIL 65281) and I would like to order more. I would be grateful if you could dispatch a repeat order as soon as possible.

Could you also please tell us whether you could offer a discount on bulk purchases?"

He then decided he wanted an answer quickly, so this is the telex he sent (A) and the answer he received (B). Read them and translate into Ukrainian:

A. BOS 660831 G

CASGIN 625037 | MILAN 14/6/2001 1045

ATTN BEST

DELIGHTED FIRST ODER YR STATIONARY REF MIL 6528|

Task 4. Discuss the meaning of these words, like this:

P: What do you think” delighted” means?

R: I think it means” very pleased.”

DELIGHTED (a) Very pleased (b) very sorry

DISPATCH a) write (b) send

BULK (a) a small quality (b) a large quantity

PURCHASES (a) things you buy (b) people who sell

ADVISE (a) want (b) tell

STERLING (a) pounds (b) dollars

REGRET (a) pleased (b) sorry

Task 5. Rewrite each of these sentences in two other ways, for example, if it is from a telex, rewrite it as if it is in a telephone conversation and a formal business letter and vice versa.

1. I am sorry to inform you that we have not received your remittance.

2. Please send us the order number as soon as you can.

using abbreviations where possible:

using single words instead of longer phrases;

cutting out some short words such as articles (the/a), pronouns (you/we), verb to be, some prepositions (in/on)

Make sure your message can still be understood.
