Degrees of Comparison
It is the only set of form which is preserved through all the history of English language. Adjective has 3 degrees of comparison: positive, comparative, superlative.
Means of their forming:
- suffixes;

- suffixes plus interchange of the root vowel.
Some adjectives have parallel sets of forms with and without interchange of the root
vowel.
In NE interchange of the root vowel is less common. ENE: interchange in
elder - eldest farther - farthest
old -. far -
older - oldest further - furthest;
- suppletive forms.
In ENE there is a growth of analytical forms. In NE - double comparative, double
superlative degrees.
NUMERALS
Cardinal Numerals
In OE numerals:
- from 1 to 3 are declined;
- from 4 to 19 are invariable, if used as attributes to a substantive, but they are declined if
used without a substantive;
- denoting tens have their Genetive in - es or in -a, -ra, their Dative in - um;
the word "both" be3en, bu, ba is declined as twe3en, tu, twa.
