Text 4C. Karpinsk
The Coat of arms of Karpinsk is unforgettable. On a silver field there is a blue eagle with golden eyes and a diadem, holding a roll. At the bottom there are two crossed picks and a stone, at the top there is a golden tower crown.
The eagle is a symbol of St. John the Theologian and the symbol of Bogoslovsk mount okrug. The golden stone and picks show the diversity of mineral resources.
Karpinsk is a small and unique Russian town in Sverdlovsk region. It is situated on the river Turjay and includes the following villages: Sosnovka, Veselovka, Kakvinskie Pechi, Kytlym, Shompa, Knyaspa, Kosva and Ust-Tipil.
The first settlement appeared here in 1759. After the moment when copper deposits were discovered in this region Maksim Pohodyashin, a rich merchant and the owner of the mines, in 1769 started to build plants including Bogoslovsk brass works. All those plants and territories got the name of Bogoslovsk Mount Okrug (County). The plant and the settlement got their names after the St. John’s Cathedral. Bogoslovsk brass works started its work in 1771. At the beginning of the 20th century a partial reconstruction was made and new equipment and water turbines were set there. Later, a small chemical works appeared on the right bank of the Turjya River.
In 1891 Bogoslovsk had 2 brick churches, 3 specialized schools, a post-office, 25 shops, 2 wine shops, a hospital and a vet hospital, one observatory and a bakery.
A brown coal deposit was discovered here in 1902. In 1919 after Kolchak’s invasion it was decided to stop chemical and brass works and in 1920 a locomotive depot appeared on the basis of the former brass works. A machine-building plant has been working there since 1942.
In 1933 Bogoslovsk became a satellite of Nadezhdinsk and was renamed as Ugolni. It was granted a town status in 1941 and surrounding settlements were integrated into it.
In 1943 steam shovels were changed into electric ones.

Karpinsk is rich in platinum, gold, copper-zinc ores. It is also a town of cultural importance.
